How to Earn “Great Place to Work for All” Status

“Leaders who commit to building Great Places to Work for All have the power to repair and strengthen social bonds, improve individual lives, and elevate the human spirit.”

– Michael C. Bush, author of A Great Place to Work for All

🕶 🌞 🌅 It’s June 2022, a time to enjoy late sunsets, rooftop bars, and plan exciting adventures. The last 2 summers were unlike any others in our lifetimes, so I’m hoping that 2022 feels like our new normal in the healthiest ways.

One of my favorite summer pastimes is reading. Before the sun comes up, I devour culture leadership books like candy. 🍭

This summer, I am developing a course called #CultureMBA which will bring you the highlights and cliff notes of the top culture leadership books in the hybrid era.

As a preview, here is one of the best books I’ve read this year, A Great Place to Work for All, by Michael C. Bush.  The book shows us how to apply 30+ years of research 🧠 by analyzing data from the most trusted, diverse, inclusive, and equitable companies where people love to work. 🥰

➡️  In the 2022 forward of “A Great Place to Work For All” book are 3 NEW INSIGHTS:

1. Recognize human potential is the name of the game

2. Recognize fairness is the playbook

3. Companies that reach ALL of their people WIN (meaning DEI is vital)

According to their research, there are 3 initial keys to reaching your potential.

➡️ LEADER EFFECTIVENESS:

· Have you surveyed employees to understand their perceptions of leadership? This can be very revealing and a little scary. However, it's important to take blinders off and gain insights on potential development needs.

➡️ VALUES:

· Are your core values clear, compelling, and communicated often?  Have they been updated since 2020?  Those older value statements may not resonate anymore, especially if you have experienced significant turnover.

➡️ TRUST:

· What I learned from a colleague is that trust starts with empathy. Are your leaders able to listen, be vulnerable and learn from another's lived experiences?  Trust and empathy create psychological safety which is the foundation to building a great place to work.

VITAL INSIGHT: Once potential is maximized, the research shows you are positioned to INNOVATE 💡 and GROW FINANCIALLY 💰.

I am a firm believer that people stay where they are valued, appreciated, and respected.
